SKUNK CABBAGE: Lysichiton americanum (yellow), also known as swamp cabbage.

DESCRIPTION: This swamp plant blooms in North America in early spring (in the shift from Pisces to Aries). The bright yellow leaf or spathe pierces the rotting vegetation of the previous year. The plant has a sickly sweet to rotten smell. For pictures of the plant and links to information about it, click here.

POSITIVE QUALITIES: The remedy pierces the shell of stagnant mental attitudes which are prohibiting new growth, allowing a fresh circulation of inspiration.

PATTERNS OF IMBALANCE: Stuck in or blocked by a once-useful mindset which has begun to putrefy.

Those needing Skunk Cabbage have not heeded the call to a new cycle of development and have become stuck in stale attitudes which have begun to ferment. They consider themselves very mentally capable and may not realize that they have developed an emotional, almost sentimental attachment to old ideas and beliefs.

This outgrown mental framework congeals into a membrane that becomes impermeable and unreceptive to new inspiration or evolution, constraining them in circumstances that no longer serve them. They are immobilized in their own private bubble and may not be aware that they have isolated themselves from the flow of the collective consciousness.

This essence may initially accentuate the sense of stagnation, nudging the individual to acknowledge their putrefying mental attitudes. It then proceeds to pierce the constraining membrane; the fresh winds of inspiration dispersing the stagnant air and introducing new currents of thought. It helps one to surrender the old without needing to control the future outcome.
