Flower Essences, Animals, and Death:
Support for Bereaved Pet Owners
©2000 by Teresa Wagner, M.S. Animal Communicator

Animal communication takes the guesswork out of what animals are thinking and feeling, deepening understanding and intimacy between animals and people. Animal communicators help resolve problems between animals and people--from litter box problems, to helping abused animals heal from trauma, to assisting in times of loss and grief.

I am grateful that I have flower essences to support me and my animal and human clients as we work together. A basic combination I take before each session includes Yellow Star Tulip for empathy, Queen Anne's Lace for spiritual insight and vision, Pink Yarrow for protection from clients' emotions, and Madia for focus. In my sessions with humans and their animals, I recommend essences to support continued change and healing in about 75 percent of my cases.

Some of the most meaningful experiences of my practice are in helping animals and their people through an animal's death process, which can bring great healing and transformation. Death is a sacred and profound transition, both for animals leaving their bodies and for those who love them./

As their guardians, however, humans are often called upon to make difficult decisions about issues such as: (1) Treatment Options: Do they want heroic treatments or are they ready to go? (2) Euthanasia: How do I know when it is time? Am I holding on too long or giving up too soon? (3) Quality of life: How do I know when diminished capacity becomes suffering? These ethical dilemmas can be eased, decisions more informed, and guilt and discomfort prevented, when we learn what an animal wants.

When I communicate with animals that have passed on, they describe dying and transition to the other side as an absolutely magnificent, peaceful process. The "challenge" of death lies more so with loved ones left behind to learn to live without their beloved animals, to surrender to the change in form of a cherished relationship. What follows are brief descriptions of essences that I have seen effectively support the healing process of grief for those surviving the loss of their animal loved ones.
