Writer's Guidelines: Submit Your Work to Vibration Magazine
Vibration Magazine is dedicated to exchanging information about vibrational remedies on a non-partisan basis, favoring no particular company or maker of essences. We welcome queries from makers, practitioners, educators, and consumers of essences for articles about their experience. Here are some guidelines.
Style
In writing for the Internet, the style is rather different than for other media. To hold the reader's attention, language should be clear, simple, and vivid: personal and personable, rather than academic or technical. Articles need to be specific rather than general, with examples readers can use and apply.
Our audience varies from advanced practitioners and makers to the just introduced and total newbies. The language of most articles would need to suit that range, though we do use more advanced articles for practitioners and makers of essences as well.
Articles should be no more than about 750 words. Should the piece be substantially longer, there is an option to run it in installments. We reserve the right to edit for brevity, clarity, and relevance to the themes of a particular issue of Vibration, returning the article to you for approval.
Types of Articles We'd Like to See
Before you write a whole article, why not contact us to see if we foresee needing something on that topic? We do regularly have theme issues, like the ones on Essences and the Family and Combining Essences with Other Healing Tools, so ask about plans for future themes.
Before you query us with your idea, see what we have already published on your topic. Look at our back article index, including the Virtual Booklets listed there on recurring topics. Below are more specific guidelines. Also, use our site-wide search engine to see if your topic's been covered already, or if you have anything to add to what's already been published.
IN-DEPTH PORTRAITS OF SINGLE ESSENCES: Your searching thoughts and observations about single essences, going past the maker's written descriptions into specific experience of how the essence affects people. We like to include botanical information on the plant, illustrations or photographs, and even flower lore. If you have such illustrations, let us know.
CASE EXAMPLES: Include not just the maker's descriptions, but what the issue was beforehand, what remedies were used and why, and what the results were. Ethical practice requires that you carefully disguise identities in such a public forum and, in most cases, seek the permission of the client.
SPECIAL APPLICATIONS OF THE ESSENCES: We welcome information on all kinds of applications of the remedies, such as healing of emotional issues and past traumas, to animals, children, body work, astrology, wellness, and groups. Again, the more specific essences and uses you mention, the more helpful it will be to the reader.
BOOK EXCERPTS AND REVIEWS: We do not publish reviews, but instead prefer brief excerpts from books in print or in process so that our readers can have a direct experience of your knowledge. We would need the approval of the publisher; reprints from other print media like journals or web pages are also possible, with permission. We can provide a link so the reader can order the book right then and there, on-line at a discount, from Amazon.com. Book authors and publishers: You may send us a copy of your book for (address at the bottom of this page) for consideration as a reprint or to be used (and cited) when we research new articles.
ESSENCE/DEVA STORIES: We have heard--and experienced--delightful tales about what happens when you tune into the devas and make an essence. (Or, in many cases, what happens when the devas show up and say, "YOU are selected to make this essence.) Sharpen your inner story-teller and share, as vividly as you can, what happened when YOU were called and how you learned what the essence was about. (For examples of stories published in the past, see our Essence Making and Testing Virtual Booklet.)
DON'T STOP AT FLOWERS: While most essences are made from flowers, we love to help readers expand their awareness and use of essences made from other sources, such as gems, environments, animals, light, etc. (The August, 2001 issue is all about non-flower essences, but we regularly publish articles on this type of remedy.)
BEYOND THAT, SURPRISE US! The essences are such a rich and varied support for all of us and practitioners themselves are so creative and inventive in their usage, that we couldn't begin to predict what will come our way. We don't, however, need terribly general articles on what the flower remedies are, since we already have topics like these in our FAQ section.
A Special Note to Essence Makers
We get many communications from essence makers who wish to submit articles to Vibration Magazine about their essences. We aim to be nonpartisan and to feature articles by or about one or two companies in each issue, as space and that issue's theme allows. Our editorial policy is that all articles must be informational rather than promotional. That is, they cannot be a form of advertisement but instead must teach readers more about the potentials and uses of specific essences. Our readers prefer to hear precisely how specific individuals used and benefited from an essence. Staying informational also honors the wide variety of contributions by the many makers in our field, avoiding the ruffled feathers caused by claims and counterclaims of effectiveness. One additional caution is that, because of FDA strictures, we cannot print claims that an essence cures a specific medical or psychiatric problem, so all such claims will be edited out.
As it turns out, according to the feedback, an educational focus also suits our readers better than a promotional one. When essences are good and unique, they sell themselves. If your descriptions of specific essences serve a purpose for our readers, they will be drawn to your website to hear more about them and about your company. We do provide a link to your website and email or other contact information in the bio that follows your article.

How to Submit Articles
We will need the final result in a text file on diskette or by e-mail. It would be helpful to see drawings or photos as files on a high-quality scanner first in .gif or .jpg format. Except for book reprints, please submit text in digital form rather than on paper. Email your submissions here.
Articles should be no more than 750 words. Should the piece be substantially longer, there is an option to run it in installments.
Compensation for Articles
Since Vibration Magazine is a free e-zine with no paid subscribers and is created entirely by volunteers, we regret that no monetary compensation can be provided for contributions. Authors retain all rights to their articles and may reprint them in any media, including on their web sites. We gladly include a brief bio with the article (up to 50 words), informing readers of how to reach you, including an e-mail address and/or link to your web site. Please note that it is the responsibility of the contributor to notify us of changes of website or email address as there are so many we can't continually check links on past issues.
