water
for the Soul's Thirst

Recently, religous extremism has been in the news. While almost all of it focuses on Muslim fundementalism, it would not be honest to cast blame only toward that quarter. Religous and spiritual extremism has been in some way a feature of all world religons.

Unquestioning rigidity, sweeping conformity, a fanatical adherence to rules: the potential to become extreme in ANY aspect of our lives exists within each of us. Vibrational essences can be called on when we become overzealous and intolerant of others' (or our own) deviation from the golden path -- be it religion, politics, diet, or philosophy.

click to read or post to our message board about vibrational/flower essencesBelow we present portraits of two different essences made by two different companies. They are each made from water -- one from a still, filtered source and the other from a natural spring. Both are used to inspire mental, emotional, and spiritual flexibility.

A basic premise of essence-making is that remedies made from the same (or similar) source by two different essence makers will have important similarities, but may also be different. Judge for yourself where these two represent a confluence -- and where they flow apart.

Effervescence: Responsive and Fluid

by Deborah Bier, M.Ed.
Note: Made by Whole Energy Essences, Effervescence is made from pure, filtered water.

Key Statements:
  • I am stiff, inflexible, stuck in my ways.
  • I lack sparkle, effervescence, lightness.
  • A single emotion (like anger, fear) is a habit for me.

This is a single essence made from neither fruit, flower nor gem. Created from potentized water, it is as it sounds: vibrant, sparkling, lively and bubbly (in character only: it is not carbonated).

Uplifting and refreshing, Effervescence is like a long drink of cool water on a hot day. Think of water glistening and dancing over rocks in a life-filled stream ...light bouncing off rippling waves in the sea ...the the murmur of water as it flows on its way to the ocean. The ultimate in flexibility and malleability, it takes on the shape of whatever contains it, as fluid as its environment requires.

Water covers most of our planet; it is very central to all plants and animals. We ourselves are mainly liquid with a few other chemicals thrown in. Water is also a good conductor of energy and requires balance for harmonious, energetic health. Our relationship with water is profound, and necessary to conducting the spark of life which animates us.

Water is an ancient symbol for the emotions. Fluid, healthy feelings mean flexibility as we respond to our inner and outer landscapes. A habit of a single emotional response such as anger or fear speaks of a need for an undammed flow of water.

In fact, ANY habitual response speaks of rigidity, be it emotional, mental, physical, or spiritual. Effervescence helps us begin to see that there are new ways of being, the stimulus of each moment representing a new impetus for growth and change.

Because our need for water is so general, Effervescence can be considered an essence for general use. It is is one of the Pattern Breaking essences.

  • Rock Water: Beware Spiritual Absolutes

    by Connie Barrett
Note: Rock Water is the only Bach Flower Remedy not made from a plant. It is gathered from natural springs known for their ability to heal the sick.

The negative Rock Water condition is one of the most common dangers for people who are newly launched on a spiritual path. We may look at how we've been living, reflecting with disgust both on the physical indulgences of laziness and MacDonalds hamburgers, and the mental and emotional excesses of self-indulgence -- and decide to become overnight ascetics.

We may eat macrobiotic foods religiously, exercise our protesting physical bodies, meditate for hours on end. We use any urge to backslide as evidence of our weakness and renew the discipline with even more determination. On a mental level we may become unquestioning devotees of particularly rigid belief systems, and adopt intellectual limitations as eagerly as we do physical ones.

The above is an extreme example, and is not limited to people like us. People may be equally rigid practitioners of Catholicism or Judaism, conservatism or Marxism. The common element is rigidity: the refusal to question and through questioning to grow. While they don't proselytize, they try to convert through setting an example. When they fail to achieve their often superhuman goals, they chastise themselves severely.

In their behavior, they are attempting to steer their lives by a fixed plan firmly shutting out the voice of intuition or spirit or soul. This is the true failure.

Lesser forms of this syndrome are more common, and Rock Water is indicated for any area of life where one's beliefs make adaptation to change and thus growth difficult. In a sense, those who still uncritically follow the beliefs and behavior patterns of their parents or culture are as unbending as the spiritual fanatic. Each of us is here not to follow someone else's path, but to create our own, and to change our direction when we ourselves change.

Rock Water helps us to do this. It not only helps us to choose our paths in life in accordance with the uniqueness of our own natures, but encourages us, when we're weary or in need of diversion, to go off on little side paths -- which may prove to be the way to our true destinations. It is the remedy of the road less traveled.
