The special theme of this March, 2000 issue of Vibration Magazine is essences to help us live with the unique challenges of our modern-day world. It is comprised of contributions from essence makers and practitioners from all over world. Mostly, they focus on coping with the stresses, strains, wear and tear of contemporary living: pollution, the world seeming to move too fast, and the epidemic of fatigue and overwhelm.
When we consider modern-day life, it's not surprising that many of us first think of this down side. While science and technology have transformed our world, it hasn't always been for the better.
However, there can be an up side to modern life, too. Through technology, increased affluence in the developed nations, fast world-wide communications and global interconnectedness, we have a greater ability to help what used to be intractable problems like disease, hunger, and poverty.
Particularly among the developed nations, we now hold within our grasp the ability to change the world for the better. This is an opportunity for deep healing, vastly improved quality of life, and long lives for many all over the globe. While we often don't know how to utilize these abilities either as individuals or as nations, the power to do so is now unprecedented. Unfortunately, the developed nations simply haven't evolved the spiritual and moral core required to use these abilities for the highest good of all. There is a gap between our abilities and our consciousness.

In my opinion, one way we can deal with the strain of modern day life is to devote ourselves to developing the commitment and will to act for the greatest good. Knowing what constitutes "the greatest good" is not simple and requires ongoing examination and reflection. But if we set a priority of spiritually and ethically catching up to our technological advances, we will discover significant ways to use these capabilities with wisdom.
Vibrational essences, of course, can help with this process. Naturally, I am unable envision in what direction other people need to develop or what the greatest good looks like. However, I am presenting groups of essences in four themes which might help us search for those answers. I was helped in this quest by several manufacturers' printed materials, my own experience as a healer, Donna Cunningham's Flower Remedies Handbook and Jeffrey G. Shapiro's The Flower Remedy Book. (The maker of each essence is given in parenthesis).
Key: A = Alaskan Flower Essence Project; B = Bach; F = Flower Essence Service; G = Green Hope; M = Masters; P = Pegasus; W = Whole Energy Essences
Compassion and Empathy are required for sensitive, inclusive solutions. Calendula (F, W) promotes gentleness, warm exchanges, caring, understanding, and safety for all. Water Violet (B) helps reduce aloofness, encouraging sharing and the ability to show compassion. Holly (B, P) heals cynical, hateful, mistrustful and jealous tendencies. It helps bring out users' innate openness, receptivity, grace, and forgiveness so they can perceive the suffering of others. Rhododendron (W) is the essence of compassion and empathy for those in pain.
Moving into Harmony with the Natural World allows us to develop appropriate relationships with ourselves, one another, and other forms of life. Bells of Ireland (G, P, A) essence attunes the user with nature, opening one's intelligence to the wisdom of the natural world. Borage (F, G) does similar attuning, as does Star Tulip (F) by increasing sensitivity to other realms.
Divine Guidance and Contact help us act in alignment with the Will of the Universal Source to fulfill our role in the Divine Plan. Angelica (F, P) brings trust of Spirit to our center, so we attune to a higher world for guidance. It reminds us there is more to life than the material world and brings Spirit into our thoughts. Black Eyed Susan (also called Rudbeckia; A, F, W) releases entanglement with hidden, distorting emotions so that decisions are made with love and wisdom. Helps those who are emotionally frazzled by being on the go find difficulty in making heart-centered decisions. Star Tulip (F) brings sensitive and receptive attunement to higher realms.
Moving to Act brings us from the realm of wishing things were different to actually making them so. Blackberry (F, M) turns ideas into action, overcoming indifference, obstacles, inertia and apathy; it results in a feeling that life will be okay. Astilbe (W) and Aspen (B) give courage in the face of the unknown. Borage uplifts the heart, bringing encouragement where there had been despair.
