Too Busy? In a Pickle? Dill Can Help You Relish Life

©2000 By Joyce Mason

Information indigestion is the malady of the Internet Millennium. There's more to digest in a day than most of us used to chew on in a month, maybe a year. Even the brightest people are having a hard time handling information bombardment as computers become extensions of our minds. We are overwhelmed with voice mail, e-mail, faxes, and FedExes. The problem is, since people know you get things right away, they expect you to answer them right away, and that only adds to the mounting daily pressure.

You may have wished, "If only someone could invent an Alka SeltzerŽ for the racing mind!" Well, someone has--Dill flower remedy. Offered by the Flower Essence Society (FES), Harebell, Petite Fleur, Pegasus, and Perelandra, this popular essence is the elixir for the overwhelmed. When you are Dill-uged by modern living and its stimulus overload, this remedy can be a boon.

Life in cities and evolution on fast forward can cause people to feel pulled in a thousand directions. Take a good look at a dill flower--like our hectic lives, the petals burst in all directions. The tiny blooms sit on the ends of long stems, looking remarkably like fireworks exploding. That's a picture worth a thousand words, since the medieval Doctrine of Signatures teaches us that the form of a plant may suggest what its healing functions are.

According to FES, this yellow flower helps us experience and absorb the fullness of life, especially its sensory aspects. It is easy to shut down when we see, hear, taste, smell, and try to process so much. According to FES's Flower Essence Repertory, "Rather than be dulled and subdued, the senses can be refined and clarified, becoming ever more luminous and transparent."

In other words, Dill can move our evolutionary process forward, enabling us to take in all the nuances of a rich life and interesting times. Dill can help us drink in, integrate, and relish all we experience, one bite at a time without feeling uncomfortable. We will no longer feel we have to cram the entire dessert tray into our mouths in five minutes, or else lose the opportunity.

As Donna Cunningham mentions in her article on Corn in this issue, it is often helpful to note the different spins on a remedy from various makers and to find their integration point. In contrast to FES's definition, Perelandra describes Dill as helping an individual to reclaim power balance released to others--an antidote for victimization. Imagine the Dill flower--how the petals shoot out energy from the center outward. Dill types also pour energy away from their center to others, giving themselves away, and leaving their quintessential Self vulnerable. An example everyone experiences is how you feel drained after long, hard day of "giving at the office."

A psychic once described my aura as energy rushing out in all directions. You guessed it, it took an expert a hot second to peg Dill as my type remedy. Life today is like eating cheesecake *all the time,* so I take Dill often. No one appreciates better than I do that this flower keeps me centered enough to relish and get the most of what I take in before I rush to share it--lingering a little on each and every bite. Whenever I threaten to become Dill-erious, I take a course of Dill as a single essence or in a mixture.

When stimulus overload threatens in my fast paced work, I take a quick dose of Dill and then I can tackle the twenty items that landed on my desk in the last hour. What a help this remedy can be!
