SAINT JOHN'S WORT--
A MIRACULOUS REMEDY

©1999 by Rupa Shah, MD

Since the age of thirteen, I have been attracted to spirituality. I read a lot of inspiring books, and by the time I was nineteen, I was very interested in learning how to meditate. My urge to seek Truth and attain Wisdom was very intense. I used to spend a lot of time meditating. I went through many experiences and many deep realizations.

About twelve years ago, I experienced a very intense meditation, full of white light and a very fine inner sound. I let myself flow along in this state a long time. When I came out it, I felt calm, clean, and blissful, full of love for the whole of creation.

But just in a few days, I started feeling strange. I could not tolerate the presence of too many people and started feeling sick in crowds or in closed places. I became very fearful, nervous and insecure. I used to feel ill very suddenly, any time, any place. I had bad nightmares and was very afraid of the dark. It felt as if my subtle bodies were loose. I used to fall into day-dreaming and out-of-body states.

Panic attacks and phobias limited my movement. I was very afraid to be left alone, lest destructive forces overwhelm me. For months I had to be accompanied by someone if I wanted to go anywhere. It was a living nightmare. I lost my confidence totally.

India is a very sunny country and I should not have been missing the sun much. But the moment it got cloudy, as during the rainy season, I would feel depressed and my mind would stop functioning. It was a shock to me to be so helpless. I am a doctor myself but I could not figure out anything.

I tried homeopathy first, but a few of the homeopathic remedies had actually worsened my problem. I had started suffering from other health problems. Then I tried Bach Flower Remedies. They still could not correct the problem. I was very frustrated and was ready to do anything.

Finally, I came across new flower essences from the Flower Essence Society. I was afraid to take them internally, so I began with bath therapy, putting a few drops of flower remedies in the tub. The energies of the flower remedies quickly disperse in water and enter the energy field directly. I started with Self-Heal. Then I took Yarrow (white) for oversensitivity. After a month, I started taking it orally too. After a month, I saw & felt a shield of thick white light around me. Then I took Garlic for fears. It helped partly.

This was followed by St. John's Wort flower remedy for fears in general. After a few days, while walking on the road, I felt SAFE. I was very happy. For about a year, I kept taking this remedy on and off. There was gradual and definite improvement in health. I started traveling alone for short distances. I got good sleep and no more nightmares. I was no longer afraid of the dark. I gained tremendously in confidence. When during monsoons, I don't see the sun for days, I am still all right.

I recovered fully. I have traveled to many countries of the world in the last few years to participate in international conferences about flower remedies. I have felt well & peaceful while traveling to unknown places. Going through this difficult time taught me valuable lessons about health and healing. I have emerged stronger.

Using this flower remedy reduces any traumatic effect of our changing consciousness. It also reinforces the alignment of the higher bodies, particularly above the causal plane, facilitating contact with the Higher Self. It offers excellent protection in an overly expanded state of consciousness. Very often one needs protection at the lower astral plane. On my way to recovery, while my fears were dissolving, I realized that the astral plane was only an illusion, created by my own mind.

ABOUT THE PLANT: Saint Johnís Wort is a shrubby, perennial plant, native to Europe and Western Asia. The bright yellow flowers appear from June to September. (For pictures, visit The Southwest School of Botanical Medicine.)

As an herb, it eases burns or wounds when applied externally, and it relieves digestive or respiratory problems. In Europe, it is widely used for depression, and there are studies validating its usefulness. For more information on its herbal properties, visit the Hypericum Buyers' Club.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: DR. RUPA A. SHAH trained in allopathy in Bombay, but developed a very keen interest in Homeopathy about 10 years back. While researching & treating patients, she came across the flower remedies. On getting highly encouraging results, she decided along with her Doctor husband to produce and research Himalayan Flower Essences; as there was much ancient philosophy behind Indian Flower Remedies. She is also a trained aromatherapist and combines this discipline with flower essences.

She has dedicated her life to researching flower remedies and is sharing her findings with practitioners all over the world. Being trained in medicine has helped her to present her findings scientifically, which is more convincing to her colleagues and stirs their interest in Flower Remedies. You may contact her by e-mail.
