Both homeopathy and vibrational essences are forms of energy-based
healthcare. Neither depend upon or contain the chemical constituents of
their original source. Both address imbalances of
body/mind/spirit, and prompt the vital or life force to heal the user.
They can be used by people of all ages as well as animals of all species.
Given these significant similarities, it's no wonder consumers and
professionals both have trouble telling them apart, for in many ways they
are more alike than different. But different they certainly are. And the
two fields have much to teach one another for the growth and good of each.
Illness vs. Wellness
One of the major differences is that while both are commonly used when
disharmony or symptoms are present, only essences are used for increasing
and accentuating wellness or health.
Here, one must make the distinction that health is NOT the same as the absence of sickness or symptoms of
illness. Wellness is a state of being which includes creativity,
flexibility, a wide range of emotions, the desire and ability to do good
work and have loving relationships, a nourishing spirituality, and vitality
and freedom of body, mind, and spirit. In fact, you can be ILL and still
have a significant level of wellness--these states are not mutually
exclusive.
Homeopathy--particularly classical homeopathy--is applied to symptoms
and states of disharmony only. The entire being, both well and ill, is
taken into account in determining the correct remedy, but only ill people
are treated. While homeopathic treatment may create wellness or health, it
also might just reduce or minimize symptoms -- which is wonderful, but not
the same as creating vibrant health.
In cases where full wellness has not be attained, the only next step is to wait until illness reappears before
homeopathy can be applied again. In many ways, this fits well with the
methods of conventional medicine in that mainstream doctors (not to mention
the reimbursement habits of health insurance companies) are most focused on
treating diagnoses, with wellness taking a far back seat.
Essences do not treat just the presence of illness: they include a huge
range of choices to support and accentuate health and wellness. Different
essence companies' products are more suited to the illness focus and others
to wellness, and it is both necessary and fortunate that we have so many to
choose among. This is particularly true of the "younger" essence
companies, which are focused specifically on creating and maintaining
wellness in the quest to fulfill human potential.
It is possible that homeopathy has uses beyond its application to
sickness. In fact, I entirely trust that someday, researchers and
clinicians will find new ways to apply homeopathic treatment in ways which
specifically focus on wellness. But this is not yet the case. In this
area, vibrational essences may help lead the way and can teach the
homeopaths.
Science and Intuition
Another difference is one of perspective and habit. Homeopathy is very
well practiced in the discipline of science: exhaustive record keeping,
careful research, painstaking case taking, in-depth remedy pictures,
powerful intellect-based prescription approaches, methodical manufacture of
remedies and a focus on purity.
Additionally, homeopathy has a long and distinguished history in publishing and teaching, well-defined standards of
practice, and certification of practitioners. The world of vibrational
essences has much less strength in these areas, with homeopaths possessing
much to teach and show essence folks here.
Instead of science, vibrational essence makers on the whole excel in the intuitive arts.
Nonlinear thought yielding deep and surprising understanding (as opposed to
knowledge) of essences, a palpable sense of guidance and purpose, bursts of
insight and inspiration, trust in and connection to the Divine, an
emotional appreciation of Nature, marked inventiveness and creativity,
great flexibility and responsiveness to new situations, and the power of
intention as an important tool.
Intention is the focus or belief held by the maker, practitioner, and/or
essence user which empowers and accentuates the action of the essence.
Since both homeopathy and essences operate with non-chemical mechanisms--
that is, in the world of vibration or energy--they can be influenced by
human energy in the form of thoughts and beliefs. This is part of the
reason essences differ greatly by from company to company (discussion of
this topic here). Intention is something which can be harnessed as a
powerful tool and many essence folk know this, though I think it can be
emphasized more strongly than it generally is.
While homeopaths do recognize there are some ways their beliefs or thoughts
may be able to influence the remedies they give, I personally know none
which employ this as a healing tool. And I know of no homeopathy
manufacturing company which schools its employees in the discipline of
focus or intention. So, for example, if a technician making a homeopathic
remedy is thinking about that weekend's football game, the fight they had
that morning with their spouse, that they are tired, bored, or that they
really don't believe in the efficacy of homeopathy, a little of the energy of those thoughts
can enter the remedy.
Compare this with essence makers who, while they make or bottle essences,
keep a meditative focus on doing the highest good for all concerned, ask
that the essence do no harm, or affirm their faith in essences, etc. These
thoughts, too, influence the essence. Which would you rather use: a
vibrational product influenced by random thoughts or one empowered to
specifically accentuate healing? Here, vibrational essences have something
important to teach.
Yet, the two worlds of essences and homeopathy have so far found very few
occasions to exchange ideas and understanding. There is often more
emphasis on our differences than our similarities -- a great loss to both
fields. We each need to learn what the other excels in to balance our
respective shortcomings. I invite readers to write to us,
suggesting ways to bring these two fields closer together.
