From Cradle to Grave: LifeStageTM Essences
by Deborah Bier, M.Ed., maker of the Whole Energy Essences and a holistic therapist.
From birth to death, we continue developing, with each stage having its own particular milestones, goals, and issues. Whole Energy Essences' LifeStage EssencesTM can help us move through our own and our loved ones' developmental stages with greater ease and grace.
In each phase of life, the individual faces new challenges and exhibits new strengths. As a result, the people around them also face change. Therefore, like many other modalities, these essences work best when used for the entire family, not just the person who seems to be having the problem--the "identified patient." This is particularly true when the problem is long-standing, severe or has not yielded to other treatment which has addressed the individual "patient" alone.
Dirty Words?
Childhood... Adolescence... Young Adult... Midlife... Senior. Many people take a look at the names of these LifeStage EssencesTM and come to all sorts of negative judgments about what they mean. Senior becomes "I have one foot in the grave." Adolescence means "I must be acting like an irresponsible jerk." Midlife means to many "I'm over the hill." This makes the thought of using these essences unpleasant and discouraging.
Where do these insulting ideas come from? Each of the five life stages represented by these remedies is natural, universal, and utterly human. While in different cultures and from individual to individual they unfold differently, these words are not meant to degrade anyone!
When we find we are holding automatic, negative judgments about anything, it's a good bet that we're limiting ourselves. Taking a closer look at the judgments we're holding about any particular lifestage is almost always interesting and instructive. It's also a good bet that the corresponding LifeStage essence is being called for, allowing the user to better enjoy the strengths inherent to that stage.
If you find you are stuck in an unpleasant judgement about one or more life stage, how about entertaining the idea of turning your attitude on its head? Try on Senior as meaning "wisdom borne of much experience." Adolescence could become "exploring and examining new ideas." And Midlife can be "just hitting my best stride."
Other Cycles Beyond the Human Life Cycle
Regardless of age, we pass through the challenges of each stage many times over a lifetime as we start, follow through, and end projects. Consider the start of the project to be equivalent to Childhood, the middle to be Midlife, and the final stage to be Senior, and then use the corresponding blend.
The LifeStage EssencesTM also equate to the seasons (Springtime being Childhood; Summer, Adolescence, etc). Being in harmony with the flow of the seasons is important to all living things. Those of us who live rather detached from this natural cycle may find ourselves more in sync when using that season's essence, especially at the transitions between seasons.
Descriptions of the Five LifeStage Essences
The Childhood essence is both sensual and sensory-enhancing. There is joy as the vital force flows through the body: physical life is fresh, right, safe. Playing, exploring, and laughing seem like natural urges. Within this safety is an absence of anxiety...a relief from distress...a calm, fresh warmth.
The Adolescence blend is mercurial and given to extremes. Doing things on a big scale is the theme: global growth and change, passionate beliefs, wholehearted actions. No blind acceptance of the rules, adolescents peer behind appearances and conventions to find the truths they conceal. If you find yourself stuck in stale beliefs or afraid to question authority, this essence may help you see where the glue is hidden.
The first flush of adulthood represented by the Young Adult essence is characterized by great energy, sureness, and fire...the belief that life is without bounds, clear-cut, and within one's grasp is a powerful force at any age. It can renew a good head of steam and a dose of idealism, working wonders a on any situation frozen by its own inertia.
Mid Life essence aids with a time of review, reconsideration and rededication. The energy of this essence goes very deep within, expanding awareness inwardly for this transit. Once the review is completed, it may be time for some winnowing. This essence encourages an unsentimental cutting away of the parts of the past no longer serving the present or future. The "crossroads" of this part of the life cycle resolve and movement goes forward.
The Senior blend draws all the loose threads together and weaves them into a large tapestry: the "big picture." Senior knows how small the little things truly are. Finally feeling comfortable within yourself...finally knowing your soul as a familiar home....finally accepting what has been and what is: these are what are important. Despite assumptions of old-age senility, this essence supports fine, clear, higher intellectual functioning and the handing down of earned wisdom.
