THE FLOWERING OF HUMANITY:<BR>
Chiron Conjunct Pluto at the Millenium

©1999 By Joyce Mason

My previous article in this issue introduced Chiron's connection to flower essences and alluded to the momentous Chiron/Pluto conjunction in Sagittarius at the Turn of the Millenium. Now is the perfect time to learn about this auspicious event and how to use flower essences to make the most of its possibilities. For starters, try a New Millennium Eve "cocktail" of the astrological blends by Desert Alchemy for Pluto, Chiron, and Sagittarius.

Before the toast, however, let's look at more on how Chiron and Pluto operate in their meeting place, Sagittarius. Chiron and Pluto are complex energies that are actually closely related. (See "Chiron & Pluto: The Comet Brothers" ) Their functions are so similar people often confuse them. Both may involve issues of birth, death, sexuality, and heaven knows, pain -- but Pluto transforms, Chiron transmutes, meaning "... to have an identical event occur, but to have a different reaction to it." (I am indebted to astrologer Stan Riddle for this profound encapsulation of how Chiron and Pluto differ.)

Sagittarius is an archetype known, on the upside, as enthusiastic, optimistic, outgoing, generous, philosophical or religious and lucky. On the downside, Sag is blunt, proud, self-righteous, opinionated, dogmatic, and tactless. We lose friends and fight wars over differing beliefs, especially in politics and religion. There are few things more divisive. Yet there is nothing more painful (among nations, even bloody) than the alienation these differences bring.

Alienation is a Chironic issue, and the essence Shooting Star is the antidote. It's time for more acceptance of others, no matter how foreign their ways seem to us. Bach's Beech helps us do so without criticism or judgment. Calendula may help us really hear what others are saying; in true listening, we find our commonality with others and our differences fascinating.

While these two astrological influences are in Sagittarius, religious wounds will likely be up for healing. We will need to tackle the pain and limits our beliefs imposed, especially if religion was forced on us. Pluto is connected with sexuality and far to often with its abuses. With this combination, we might expect that even more sexual abuse among the clergy and other religious personnel will be exposed--and thank God--healed.

Extremism, even fanaticism, has long been a prelude to the various Millennia. The most ardent believers foresee these eras as Doomsday, whether the end comes by fire, biological warfare, alien invasion, or Y2K computer crashes. Scotch Broom can help overcome pessimism or despair about world events. Baby Blue Eyes addresses feelings of gloom or cynicism. If it goes as far as ongoing dark mental states and brooding, Black Cohosh is the remedy of choice. Red Clover is helpful for group panic. California Poppy can help those who are susceptible to extreme causes.

Canyon Dudleya calms emotions leading to hysteria from being too spiritually or psychically open. Bach's Vervain balances out those trying to convert others to their beliefs. Another Bach remedy, Vine, can bring balance to those who impose their will on others without regard for their personal freedom.

To look at some more positive expressions, Sag also rules things "foreign." With the global economy and small world created by the Internet, barriers of all kinds are being chipped away as we click our keyboards. Spiritual barriers are likely to come down as well, with a global understanding that the core of all faiths--and particularly their ethical codes--are remarkably similar.

Generally an upbeat person, I cannot help but conclude that there's likely to be some darkness before the dawn of the "New Age" of peace and harmony. We may see the last remnants of the old I/Thou ways and the people who feel secure in them erupt for cleansing. Some of the upsetting headlines we see now are part of that process. Love-Lies- Bleeding can help people whose pain and suffering drives them deeply inward--to help them find the larger human context for their pain. People fear what they don't understand, and change is happening big time--like it or not. Even for those of us running to embrace it, the pace and depth of world transformation is staggering. (Dill helps digest rapid-fire experiences.)

In the end, our belief systems (which are ruled by Sagittarius) will dictate the next human evolutionary step. To quote Flip Wilson's alter ego, Geraldine: "What you see, is what you get." Envisioning a harmonious world is our salvation, so let's act accordingly. It's time for Sag's optimism to work for the greater whole (take Trillium) and to bring diverse ideas into wholeness (Shasta Daisy).

What a bouquet of possibility!
