Peas on Earth, Goodwill to All
From The Essence of Flowers: Wisdom for the New Age
©2000 by Alexis Rotella
As a child, I grew up surrounded by peas. My grandmother would take me into her garden and let me help myself. Every pod was as precious to me as a Faberge egg. I used to imagine little faces on the peas--little brothers and sisters living together in peace (peas). To me, each pea was a special being, and each had its own unique character. I remember comparing the taste of individual peas. Even if they came from the same pod, each tasted similar but slightly different.

shelling peas with grandmotherIf you want to experience love and community with others, Garden-pea essence will help. Each pea within a pod is a being. This essence teaches, at a subtle level, that every single thing in this universe is a conscious being, with a lesson to teach. It also teaches that this universe, once it is understood to be alive, is a friendly garden, composed of a myriad of entities that are here to support you. A common mistake that we all make is forgetting that every single being in the universe is there because it contributes something to the whole. Without it, the whole wouldn't be complete. Just as the child in me knew the truth about oneness, the child in you knows it, too. When we feel this truth in our hearts, we can help others feel it too.

When we come from dysfunctional homes, we often dwell on sad memories. But even those who had miserable childhoods will find that their lives were filled with wondrous moments. Whether it was the nights you spent on your front porch listening to crickets, playing stick ball, or just feeling the sun against your face in the park, memories are resources that can help you cope and nurture yourself NOW. The essence from this simple, humble flower will show you that simple memories are most vital to our lives. Let your own childhood memories surface, and let the Universe cradle you in its arms. Just as every pea is supported by its pod, you are supported by the Mother/Father Pod.

While it's important to allow yourself to get in touch with your own inner child and to treasure the children of this world, we need to remember that the elderly are also worthwhile. If you look closely at an aged pea pod, it resembles the skin of an old person. Peas that have shriveled and hardened are replanted in the ground so new ones can grow. And just as old peas have value, so do old pea-ple. Garden-pea essence will open a window in your consciousness that will allow you to let the mellow wisdom of the elderly help you. If you're fearful of getting old yourself, perhaps this essence can help you get back to the center so you can see what's really important. On a more basic level, Garden-pea essence balances our chakras so they work together in harmony. (Peas lined up in the pod are like the chakras lined up in our bodies.) It seems reasonable to assume that if your chakras are working in harmony, then your ego would be a healthy size. When the ego is manageable, a person will naturally want to consider not only his or her own personal needs, but the needs of the family, community, and planet as well. It will show you how to look more closely at every one and everything with compassion and how to live better in community.
