Three Sea Essences to Prepare You for Change
©2001 by Sabina Pettitt, Pacific Essences

NOTE: The following article is based on excerpts from Energy Medicine: Healing from the Realms of Nature, ©1999 by Pacific Essences.

The Sea Essences are about transformations in consciousness. They are for major breakthroughs, for being able to contact the basic rhythms of the universe when we are going through change, and for moving into spaces of greater perspective. Each Sea Essence is very precise and very powerful. They are like the energy of the ocean which can be peaceful and calm one moment and turbulent and fierce the next. They act quickly and usually have quite noticeable results.

jelly, jelly, JELLY! So what really makes Sea Essences different from flower remedies? My experience to date suggests that the key factor is the very medium from which they come -- water, specifically salt water. Water is one of the five elements in traditional Chinese medicine and has been recognized by other medical systems as not only vital to life but also symbolic of character and personality types.

In Chinese medicine, the emotional characteristic associated with Water is fear. Fear is the obstacle that blocks expression of our true selves. Have you ever noticed that when you are coming from a place of total harmony within, there are no obstacles to action. At the level of spirit, Water is related to Chi, the psychic strength that leads us through obstacles to growth. Archetypically, it is the symbol for the unconscious. The Sea Essences, by their very nature, expose the unconscious and strengthen consciousness to move forward in its own unique unfolding. They are dynamic and act quickly to help us flow with inner strength and knowingness. Let's look at some of the Sea Essences to see how they illustrate these principles.

and even more jelly!Sea Anemone is for acceptance of self and others by taking responsibility for one's own reality. The remedy acts to open us to greater levels of awareness by aligning the mental body with our Higher Soul Purpose. Thus we realize that I do create my own reality. Every thought I think, every feeling I feel, affects the whole. Anemone releases karmic stuckness in the Solar Plexus. The events and experiences of our lives always look different if we begin from the understanding that we have chosen them for our life script. Then the highest order of free will can be experienced -- "How may I respond to this?" The alternative is resistance, which always leaves us feeling tense, isolated, and alone. Only when you are able to respond from your higher self will your choices lead to inner peace. Only when you are willing to accept that you have chosen this event as the classroom for your learning will you be free.

Brown Kelp is for shifts in perception leading to clarity. Brown kelp looks like a tangled mass of long, rubbery strands with round bulbous floats. It reflects the immense mental confusion we will often tolerate before we are willing to take a leap of faith in order to see things differently. Fear often maintains the same fixed point of view even when the experience shows us that it is not serving us. Brown Kelp balances the energy between the Root, or survival, chakra, and the Crown chakra, our connection with the macrocosm. Often when we are fearful, we go into old survival patterns instead of trusting the flow.

This essence helps us take the leap of faith that can bring us back to our center, the inner core of our being. It reminds us that "the knowledge which passeth understanding" is to be found within. It is very helpful for approaching new undertakings, especially those of a metaphysical nature, for it enhances the ability to go within and to feel comfortable there.

Jellyfish (pictured on this page) is for fluidity and letting go into the experience. On the sand, where it is sometimes left when the tide goes out, a jellyfish looks like a clear, insignificant gelatinous blob. When it is floating in water, it looks as graceful as an angel dancing. Jellyfish is a birthing and rebirthing remedy. Resistance creates pain. Holding on to anything other than what "is" right now creates blockage and stagnation. Primarily a spiritual remedy, Jellyfish connects us with the rhythms of our being and prevents rigid emotional and mental patterns from interfering with the experience of the NOW. Through fluidity, we are able to see infinite possibility.

Sea Essences act quite powerfully when taken as single essences, but they can also be effective in blends, whether with other sea essences or with flower remedies as well.
